Challenges in Developing Human-Level AI Assistants

We are pushing the boundaries of AI and creating assistants that understand and execute tasks with human-level precision and efficiency. Here are some of the hard problems we are solving:

• Decision Making Under Uncertainty: Designing Workmates with the ability to make informed decisions autonomously in situations with ambiguity, while also knowing when to seek clarification or direction from the user.

• Personalization and Adaptation: Designing Workmates that can learn and adapt to individual user preferences, working style, and needs over time, ensuring personalized support that improves with each interaction.

• Context, Integration, and Interoperability: Ensuring Workmates can seamlessly integrate with a wide range of software, platforms, and workflows that professionals use, empowering them to have the right context to execute a broad spectrum of tasks efficiently and accurately.

About the Role

As the Founding AI Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for solving the hardest AI problems on the team, often at the cutting edge of AI research where there often are no well-defined answers.

• Lead our AI efforts end-to-end from prototyping to deployment, finding a good balance between state-of-the-art and pragmatism.

• Develop and fine-tune models to improve the performance of our product. This involves staying current with the latest research and experimenting with different architectures, techniques, and frameworks.

• Continuously evaluate and refine our models and infrastructure to improve performance as we scale.

• Be the person on the team who helps everyone stay up-to-date on research. This involves organizing internal learning sessions, curating external resources, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

• Grow and build a team as we scale up.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Deep expertise in AI/ML technologies, with a focus on LLMs, transformers, embeddings, and generative AI.

• 3-7 years of industry experience in AI/ML, including hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.

• Proven track record of leading projects from prototype to deployment, with a strong emphasis on problem-solving and a deep commitment to end-user experience.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to a broad audience in writing or brainstorming in real-time. In disagreements, you engage thoughtfully with other perspectives and compromise when needed.

Bonus

• Experience working at an early stage or hyper-growth startup.

• Experience with generative AI performance measurement and reliability testing.

• Familiarity with AI prompting techniques, model fine-tuning, AI agents, memory/vector DBs, and chain modules.

• Background in building and managing robust data pipelines.

• Proficiency in our tech stack: React, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Postgres, GCP.
