Overview: 

The Network Engineer assists with corporate LANs/WANs, installs, configures, maintains, and upgrades all enterprise wired and wireless network infrastructure equipment and related security devices. Performs analytic, technical, and administrative work related to, configuration and implementing network based services/tools. Deploys programs and functions that are related to enterprise network operations, including security. Actively audits and analyzes network performance traffic and makes recommendations for hardware and software upgrades/efficiencies. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

 

  • Administer, support, maintain network devices, firewalls (network/web application level) IPS/IDS, network core, voice, high availability architectures.
  • Support, manage and secure ingress/egress connectivity to/from the institution including IPSEC Tunnels, secure file transfers and third party connections.
  • Secure, manage, monitor network perimeter layer and applications pertaining but not limited to Web/DMZ/Proxy/ Secure mail gateway architectures.
  • Maintain, administer Load balancers, external DNS and DDoS protections services.
  • Create, update and maintain accurate technical documentation and diagrams.
  • Utilize ticketing system to work, track and support affected users, locations, applications and services.
  • Ability to identify rogue/malicious activities amongst Network level devices and respond accordingly.
  • Administer, support Virtual private network and secure remote access connectivity solutions.
  • Work with onsite remote Vendors, Service Providers and consultants as directed.
  • Perform, recommend hardware, software, network, voice and related security upgrades, patches and installations as needed.
  • Assist, lead, support complex problems and work to resolve accordingly.
  • Complete high visibility, special projects as assigned.
  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance and repair activities for but not limited to network, voice, security devices, and related systems/applications.
  • Escalate tickets, issues to Direct Management report as required.
  • Expert level of support related to LAN/WAN/MAN locations and connectivity
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Requirements:

  • Provide support, onsite, remote site and offsite coverage as needed including nights, holidays, weekends, extended hours and various shifts. Some travel required within New York City and surrounding areas.
  • Minimum 5+ years hands on and logistical experience in a Network Engineer level II capacity.
  • Associate Degree or Certificate in Computer Sciences or related technical field or 5+ years progressive technical experience.
  • Team player, positive attitude and good communication skills are essential to this role.
  • Excellent documentation skills and required knowledge transfer sharing.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times when handling complex issues. 
  • Comfortable working under high-pressure demanding environment and support of critical issues.
  • Familiar with hardware and software devices from Fortinet, Cisco, Firewalls, Routers, Switches, Voice Gateways, Unified Communication Solution, SIP, PBX systems, SNMP & SIEM products.
  • Ability to adhere to industry standard best practices related to network devices, network security architecture.
  • Must be able to handle, prioritize, and multitask numerous projects, tickets and issues concurrently.
  • Strong Working knowledge of Windows Platforms and associated applications.
  • Quickly come up to speed with unfamiliar technologies using documentation, support and internet resources.
  • Provide expert level guidance and device configurations for all trusted/untrusted connections, network devices, security devices and related ancillary systems/applications\
  • Participate in disaster recovery development, exercises and actual events.
  • Validate and test rollout plans prior to deployment and work within Change control guidelines.
  • 24x7 support availability, capable of working within Data centers, data closets and ability to lift and move network equipment as needed.
  • Some Level 1 support related to cabling, patch downs, break/fix, and end user support required.  Site visit of remote locations and branch locations as needed. 
  • Works with Information Technology team to assist in the enforcement of network-related security policies, access control lists, and threat mitigation to ensure the security, availability, and viability of network services.
