SUMMARY
Atelier Ace is the in-house creative studio that develops and operates Ace Hotel and their partners and affiliates. The full-service studio is composed of multi-disciplinary thinkers, designers, architects, enthusiasts, optimists and friends with some number of folks to keep things upright. With a creative and operations team that understands the essence of our brands and products, Atelier Ace aims to create inspiring, cohesive and meaningful experiences for people.

Art makes you feel something; design makes you do something. This position creates visual text and imagery concepts to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers.

The Graphic designer combines brand standards, color theory, graphic elements, and typography to develop overall layouts and production designs for a variety of smaller scale and larger scale projects, including eflyers, postcards, banner ads, social media posts, decks, website graphics, & internal communications, as well as marketing campaigns with multiple cohesive pieces, conceptual/risky print advertisements, collaborations with copy team, retail collections and new hotels.

CORE FOCUS & ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Qualified candidates must be able to satisfactorily complete the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Study design briefs and determine requirements
  2. Conceptualize visuals based on requirements
  3. Create images and layouts by hand or using design software
  4. Develop illustrations, logos and other designs
  5. Use the appropriate colors and layouts for each graphic
  6. Work with copywriters and art director to produce final design
  7. Schedule projects and work within budget constraints
  8. Prepare rough drafts and present ideas
  9. Communicate with stakeholders about layout and design.
  10. Amend designs after feedback
  11. Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand
  12. Test graphics across various media
  13. Review final layouts and suggest improvements when necessary.

SUPPORTING FUNCTIONS
In addition to the core focus & responsibilities, the candidate is expected to complete the following duties:

  1. Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing tasks as needed.
  2. Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, web designer, marketing, printers, and colleagues as necessary.
  3. Attend and participate in weekly design meetings and brainstorms, and track all project hours.

  3. Organized and able to do focused multitasking, juggling deadlines for several projects simultaneously. You wont be micromanaged in this job, everyone on our team helps keep projects on-track and on-schedule.
  4. Self-motivated and driven, ability to work independently. But also able to work as part of a team! Were looking for someone with a passion for collaboration + brainstorms.
  5. Curiosity, drive and willingness to explore multiple design approaches.Other language, mathematical, and reasoning abilities as outlined below.
  6. Ability to comply with physical demands as outlined below.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of Atelier & Ace Culture & initiatives
  8. Technologically sound with Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, and other graphic design software
  9. Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, print, and the web
  10. Compelling portfolio of work over a wide range of creative projects
  11. Strong analytical skills
  12. Excellent eye for aesthetics & detail

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in graphic arts, design, communications or related field, or the equivalent experience to provide the knowledge and skills required. Minimum three years proven experience in graphic design. Expertise gained working in a service and quality centric environment is preferred and considered an asset. Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat. Web design or an interest in our shop a plus.

Candidate must meet the following cognitive abilities:

  3. Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written English (additional foreign languages are encouraged and preferred).
  4. Ability to apply logical thinking and understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
  5. Ability to address and solve problems involving guest and operational issues.
  6. Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  5. May be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, height, and moving machinery.
