Position Scope

The Graphic Designer shares in the creative work of the Art department—Carnegie Hall’s in-house creative group within the Marketing department—and plays an integral role in executing and maintaining Carnegie Hall’s brand style. The Graphic Designer reports to the Design Director and is part of a team of six designers with a track record of developing and delivering innovative, thoughtful, and creative design for one of the world’s most prestigious cultural institutions.

                                                                                               

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of the Carnegie Hall brand style and ensure its consistent application across all platforms. Support and collaborate with the Design Director and Art Department in evolving the Carnegie Hall brand.
  • Design and produce a variety of print and digital materials to promote the Carnegie Hall season, including but not limited to subscription and event posters, lobby cards, major season publications, and materials for the Weill Music Institute, Carnegie Hall’s Education and Social Impact Programs.
  • Create and design promotional material for Carnegie Hall Citywide concerts, a series of free performances held across New York City’s five boroughs.
  • Design digital materials (e.g., email headers, web ads, social media graphics, motion graphics) in collaboration with and support of the Senior Digital Designer.
  • Design Playbill inserts and other supporting materials for the season.
  • Actively contribute as a team player within the Art Department and Marketing team, sharing ideas and feedback.
  • Ensure all projects are completed to a high standard and delivered on time.
  • Perform additional task as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of proven experience in and knowledge of print and digital design.
  • Keen understanding of color, composition, and typography.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and the Macintosh operating system, with a working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Premiere.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and organization.
  • Culturally responsive communication and interpersonal skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible in the workplace as needs shift.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a variety of departments; ability to engage with leadership and build cross-departmental relationships.
  • Excellent time management skills; ability to work in a high-pressure environment with competing deadlines and demands from cross-departmental stakeholders; ability to work on tight deadlines as well as long-lead projects.
  • Highly self-motivated and decisive.
  • Passion for and commitment to Carnegie Hall’s mission and values.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of graphic design and art education.
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for music is a major plus.
  • Some evening and weekend coverage required.
