Summary

The New York office of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP is looking to hire a Network Engineering Intern to join our 2025 Summer internship program and support the Infrastructure & Security Team. Willkie is an elite international law firm of approximately 1,200 lawyers  located in 15 offices in six countries. 

 

The Network Engineering Intern will participate in various projects and work alongside the network engineering team performing operational daily tasks, project related configurations and proactive monitoring. The ideal candidate will be driven, seeks opportunity to learn and gain exposure to enterprise technology. Interns will have the ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain confidential information at all times.

Candidates must be willing to commit a summer internship starting June 2025 through August 2025 for a 10 week program.

Responsibilities

  • Support and shadow senior team members as part of mentorship across multiple technologies (i.e. routing/switching/firewalls/wireless/voice/security/load balancing/other) such as:
    • Perform code upgrades across multiple hardware platforms as instructed by senior members
    • Create and/or update network diagrams using MS Visio to ensure we maintain documentation accuracy.
    • Participate in vendor meetings discussing new technology, trouble escalation calls, hardware specific feature sets and anything else where we require a direct vendor call.
    • Perform configuration changes related to requested changes, trouble-shooting and/or project related deployment changes.
    • Utilize network monitoring tools such as network performance monitoring, network configuration and backup, SNMP, syslog
    • Assist in firewall rule audits and consolidation initiatives, working with senior team member.
  • Provide exceptional administrative support to attorneys and staff while maintaining communication with attorneys and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned from manager or additional team members.

Qualifications

  • Concentration and interest Network Engineering or Infrastructure
  • Preferred experience in routing, switching, firewalls, IP subnetting, TCP/IP, wireless, network monitoring, automation (python, ansible), cyber security/threat prevention
  • Understands evolving technologies
  • Experience with Python, Power shell or other scripting/automation a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ensuring client and staff satisfaction through proactive communication.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects with changing deadlines
  • Effective communication, in an in-person or virtual environment

  • Ability to sit at a desk most of the working day and walk short distances
  • Needs manual dexterity, speed and accuracy in handling office equipment
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption
  • Ability to carry light [to moderate] objects, e.g., files, small objects and supplies a short distance
  • Must be able to lift, carry and move objects up to 15lbs

Pay Range

USD $19.00 - USD $22.00 /Hr.

Pay Range Statement

This position is a part-time hourly role and benefits eligibility will be more limited. Candidates should direct questions about benefits to the hiring manager for clarification as needed.
