Senior Graphic Designer

SUMMARY

Atelier Ace is the in-house creative studio that develops and operates Ace Hotel,, and their partners and affiliates. The full-service studio is composed of multi-disciplinary thinkers, designers, architects, enthusiasts, optimists and friends — with some number of folks to keep things upright. With a creative and operations team that understands the essence of our brands and products, Atelier Ace aims to create inspiring, cohesive and meaningful experiences for people.

Art makes you feel something; design makes you do something. The Senior Graphic designer oversees and creates visual text and imagery concepts to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers.  The position reports directly to the Creative Director of Art and Design and will ensure that brand vision is present in all layouts, other designers are clear on briefs and working cohesively, and projects are aligned with marketing strategy and goals. 

CORE FOCUS & ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualified candidates must be able to satisfactorily complete the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

• Assist in the critical review of the graphic work of junior designers


• Delegate design briefs and determine requirements
  
   


• Conceptualize visuals based on requirements


• Create images and layouts 


• Develop illustrations, logos and other designs 


• Use the appropriate brand identity guidelines for each graphic


• Work with copywriters and art director to produce final design


• Schedule projects and work within budget constraints


• Prepare rough drafts and present ideas


• Communicate with stakeholders about layout and design


• Amend designs after feedback


• Ensure graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand


• Test graphics across various media

SUPPORTING FUNCTIONS

In addition to the core focus & responsibilities, the candidate is expected to complete the following duties:

• Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing tasks as needed.


• Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, web designer, marketing, printers, and colleagues as necessary.


• Attend and participate in weekly design meetings and brainstorms, and track all project hours.

• Organized and able to do focused multitasking, juggling deadlines for several projects simultaneously. You won’t be micromanaged in this job, everyone on our team helps keep projects on-track and on-schedule. 


• Self-motivated and driven, ability to work independently.  But also able to work as part of a team. We’re looking for someone with a passion for collaboration + brainstorms.


• Curiosity, drive and willingness to explore multiple design approaches.Other language, mathematical, and reasoning abilities as outlined below.


• Ability to comply with physical demands as outlined below.


• Knowledge and understanding of Atelier & Ace Culture & initiatives


• Technologically sound with Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and other graphic design software. 


• Experience with motion graphics, video with AfterEffects, Premiere and/or Final Cut Pro. And web, digital and UX design experience using Figma.


• Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, print, and the web


• Compelling portfolio of work over a wide range of creative projects


• Strong analytical skills


• Excellent eye for aesthetics & detail

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in graphic arts, design, communications or related field, or the equivalent experience to provide the knowledge and skills required. Minimum five years proven experience in graphic design.  Expertise gained working in a service and quality centric environment is preferred and considered an asset.
